Study Abroad

Studying abroad is an amazing and life-altering experience for anybody. Initially, when you think about it, you are scared of the challenges you might face abroad when no one is going to be there to help you.

Students discover a completely new side to themselves when they get to live a busy social life on a foreign campus. Most of the students also get to serve internships in foreign lands which serves to strengthen their resume. When they return back to India, they not only have a degree but a strong resume which makes them an ideal candidate for MNC jobs here.

Australia

Australia is one of the most attractive destinations for students because it has top notch universities like the University of Melbourne etc. But it has a very high cost of education. The tuition fees in Australia, is calculated depending on the credit cost for a fee band.

The fee band is different for different courses.

Every fee band covers a certain number of subjects. There are three fee bands which are applicable for Australia. For example, if your course has 8 units, 6 of belong to science and 2 belong to humanities, and “science” belongs to fee band 2 and “humanities” belongs to fee band 1. Then your total cost is 8114 Australian dollars. You should then multiply the .125 which is the credit for each unit with the fee band to get the cost for each unit. This will; imply that the total cost for the students is (.125x6x8768=6576) dollars + (.125x2x6152=1538) which amounts to 6576+1538=8114 dollars.

There are three different fee bands for Australian students which are 6152 Australian dollars(1st band), 8768 dollars(2nd band) and 10266 Australian dollars(3rd band). This fees keeps changing on an yearly-to-yearly basis and this calculation is based on the 2009 estimates.

Australian government announced flexible regulations in November 2011 for students to encourage their flow into the country.  Australia has become popular because of its work regulations for students after study. The students who have obtained degrees from this country can work for at least 2 years after completing their education without any hindrance.

Other kinds of students who have pursued master degrees in research can also reside here for upto 2 years to pursue any kind of work post their studies. This kind of work which is pursued after completion of study by an Indian student helps him immensely in recovering the cost of education which is in lakhs.

The other countries which offer nonsubsidized education to students are US and UK. Lets get to know what’s the cost of education for students here.

US

In US, the cost of education is on average much high and comes out at in a band of 10,000-35,000 US dollars per annum including the living expenses also. Students can also opt for state universities where the cost is not this much high. The public universities are run by the government as collections of colleges. The average annual tuition cost comes out at 22,958 for students here. The least expensive option is the community colleges where the fees is 3,347 US  dollars(2,24,684 per annum).

UK

Education in UK universities on an average costs 8,000-14,000  pounds for students pursuing graduation, while for those pursuing post-graduation, this cost is 12,000-16,000 pounds. But the clinical degree has moré cost associated with it and has very high cost. The cost in topnotch universities is even higher at 34,800 pounds. The cost of living in Britain is also quite high and is approximately 10.000 pounds. Although these costs are higher as compared to US, the major benefit is that the duration of these courses is low. The graduate courses are of 3 years duration as compared to 4 years in US whereas post graduation course is of 1 year as compared to two.

Singapore

Singapore is also an important study destination for students where the cost can vary between 10,000 to 30,000 Singaporean dollars. Since one Singaporean dollar is equivalent to 50 rupees, the cost comes out to Rs  50,000 to 15, 00,000 per year which are the costs for a half yearly to two year diploma course. Singapore education is a lot of worth to students because it has many reputed universities like the Nanyang technological university which was ranked 13th in the QS world university rankings.

For a bachelor degree, the cost of education can be between 24000 for 2 years to 55000 Singaporean dollars for a 4 years bachelorette degree. This comes at roughly SGD 40,000 to SGD 80,000.

Although the cost of education is high, the cost of living is moderate in this country as compared to other options which are present for international education.

The students have various accommodation options in this country which are a boarding school (6000-15000 Singaporean dollars equivalent to 3,00,000-7,50,000 INR per year), hall of residence of a university(155-800 Singaporean dollars equivalent to 7750 to 40,000 INR per year) and a private accommodation which costs somewhat around 750 Singaporean dollars per month.
